Years ago when Diane told me that she had booked a few days for us at an RV Resort here in Galax, I kinda snorted at her and said something to the effect of
"Galax? What is there in Galax? And this campground resort place, where is it, between two cow pastures?"
Which it was. Two beautiful cow pastures, both located on the sides of green hills with cows, donkeys, and wildflowers, trees that light up in the morning, and an old barn. We are next door to it now and still see cows in the morning up on the side of a hill. The view is wonderful. I admit, I felt pretty bad for being such a wise guy after we got here then. . I had to give Diane a big apology. The point is that God's creation is very evident here, the clouds, the hills, the mountains, the hay fields outside our window, the beasts of the field, and the birds of the air. There is so much life here where we live. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just up the street. I don't have to see the seven wonders of the world, not when I have maybe the eighth one right outside my window. All of it makes me feel at peace and I stand in awe in the middle of God’s creation.
Psalm 104: 10-23 fits my life right now at this moment.
10 He makes springs and pours water into the ravines;
it flows between the mountains.
11 They give water to all the beasts of the field;
the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 The birds of the sky nest by the waters;
they sing among the branches.
13 He waters the mountains from his upper chambers;
the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.
14 He makes grass grow for the cattle,
and plants for people to cultivate—
bringing forth food from the earth:
15 wine that gladdens human hearts,
oil to make their faces shine,
and bread that sustains their hearts.
16 The trees of the Lord are well watered,
the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17 There the birds make their nests;
the stork has its home in the junipers.
18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats;
the crags are a refuge for the hyrax.
19 He made the moon to mark the seasons,
and the sun knows when to go down.
20 You bring darkness, it becomes night,
and all the beasts of the forest prowl.
21 The lions roar for their prey
and seek their food from God.
22 The sun rises, and they steal away;
they return and lie down in their dens.
23 Then people go out to their work,
to their labor until evening.
